There are 2 ways to hold the stick:

1. Matched grip

Matched grip stick holding technique is divided into 2 ways as well, namely:
 
  1. Closed hand or closed hand which relies heavily on the arm stroke and wrist so that the blow also mngakibatkan hands become stiff and tired faster 
  2. Open arms or open hand, where the thumb and forefinger are used to clamp the stick, while the three other fingers serve to push stick. When the stick is pushed to touch drumhead, it will automatically stick will bounce back, use reflection to create the next blow. Do it repeatedly.

2. Traditional grip

The difference in the left hand, where the stick is clamped on the thumb and middle finger and placed between the ring finger. Thumb whose role is to encourage the drum stick. As for the right-hand how pemegangannya no difference, traditional grip is more difficult to do than matched grip because the left hand to control more difficult.

Beginning Of Traditional grip

Traditional way of holding the stick is the very first use, beginning in 1600. traditional grip is required for the purposes of a marching band drummer at that time where they put a snare drum by way tie.
